Non-equilibrium alcohol flooding model for immiscible phase remediation: 1. Equation development

چکیده
The equations for a compositional model for simulation of a two-phase, threecomponent system with inter-phase mass transfer are developed. Emphasis is placed on development of inter-phase mass transfer equations for incorporation of ratelimited inter-phase mass transfer. Due to the nature of the three-component systems considered, a single-film model may be inadequate and a two-film model must be utilized. A two-film model accounts for the simultaneous transfer of components in both directions across phase interfaces. The effect of interaction between components on diffusion is considered using a general form of Fick’s Law. A Hand Plot representation of ternary phase behavior is chosen since it allows for straightforward calculation of miscibility of bulk phases under conditions of local non-equilibrium. The developed set of equations form the basis for a numerical model to simulate the enhanced removal of non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) from porous media using single-component alcohol floods. q 1998 Elsevier Science Limited. Non-equilibrium alcohol flooding model for immiscible phase remediation: 2. Model development and application
A non-equilibrium, two-phase, three-component compositional model for the simulation of alcohol flooding has been developed and tested. Inter-phase mass transfer algorithms allow for transfer of all three components at high concentrations and high mass flux rates using a two-film model. The model has been used to simulate alcohol floods where the alcohol has an affinity for either the water-ric...
متن کاملModeling of liquid–liquid equilibria of aqueous alcohol + salt systems using amodified NRTL
The modified NRTL (m-NRTL) model is used to represent the excess Gibbs free energy of aqueous (alcohol + electrolyte) solutions. In this work, the m-NRTL model previously developed for representation of vapor-liquid equilibria for (polymer + salt + water) systems has been extended to represent liquid-liquid equilibria of (alcohol + salt + water) systems. The proposed extension is a modified of ...
متن کاملEffects of Areal Orientation on DNAPL Recovery by Neutral Buoyant Co-solvent Flooding
INTRODUCTION Dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) are organic contaminants in ground water characterized by low solubility and density greater than water [1]. DNAPL-contaminated aquifers frequently are treated using the remediation technique known as pump-and-treat [2]. The process can reduce the mass of DNAPL contamination to residual saturations by injecting water though injection wells a...
متن کاملHot water flushing for immiscible displacement of a viscous NAPL.
Thermal remediation techniques, such as hot water flooding, are emerging technologies that have been proposed for the removal of nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) from the subsurface. In this study a combined laboratory and modeling investigation was conducted to determine if hot water flooding techniques would improve NAPL mass removal compared to ambient temperature water flushing. Two experim...
